Financial Aid Information

Hamilton Campus

Financial Aid is money to help you and your family with educational expenses.

Grants and scholarships are the primary types of assistance available.

Bevill State Community College does not participate in any federal student loan program.

To complete your Pell application on line the first step is to apply for a PIN (personal identification number) for you and one parent.  The PIN website:  www.PIN.ed.gov

INFORMATION YOU WILL NEED TO COMPLETE THE APPLICATION FOR THE 2009-2010 YEAR:

  • Your federal tax return for 2008 and your parent’s federal tax return for 2008.  If you do not have a copy you can call 1-800-829-1040 or go online to www.ird.gove to request a copy.  If your file is chosen for verification you will have to provide a copy of these tax returns to the financial aid office, so be sure to keep them.
     

  • Your social security number and your parents’ social security numbers and dates of birth.  You will also need to know when they were married.
     

  • Information about any other types of income.  Some examples are social security benefits, and child support. 

  • If your file is chosen for verification you will have to provide proof of this income.

The school code for all Bevill State campus’ is 005733

The website for Pell application is www.fafsa.ed.gov – There will be no paper applications

It will take approximately 7 days for BSCC to have access to your information.

If you do not file taxes – you must provide income information.

After you have completed the application on line it is a good idea to print a copy of your student aid report to have for your records.

  • ATRIP (Alabama Teacher Incentive Program) - 100, four year, $20,000 scholarship awarded for high school seniors seeking a degree in education. www.atrip.alabama.gov.  Deadline - March 2009
  • New - George Washington Crossing Foundation - Scholarship for Seniors - History buffs, politics, military service in your future?  This scholarship might be for you - www.gwcf.org
  • Create-A-Greeting Card Scholarship Contest - Deadline is January 15 - $10,000 Greeting Card Contest. Apply at www.gallerycollection.com/schoalarship.
  • Gates Millennium Scholars - Deadline is January 2009 - Must have a 3.3 GPA. Demonstrated leadership, Met Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria (must have a financial need) - Awards based on financial need and college cost - Must let Mrs. Cooper know if you would like to apply
  • Mississippi University for Women - 2009 Hearin High School Leadership Conference - Deadline is January 12, 2009.  Cost is $50.00.  Scholarship opportunities up to $10,000.  Must have a 2.5 GPA and a minimum ACT score of 18.  www.muw.edu/admissions/hearin
  •  J.Craig and Page T. Smith Scholarship Applications are now in. Priority goes to first generation college students.  All seniors are encouraged to apply - full tuition, room and board, meal ticket, etc will be included.  Each scholarship is valued at $15,000 - renewable!  Deadline is January 15. www.jcraigsmithfoundation.org
  • Linley Heflin Scholarship - Deadline is January 16, 2009.  Apply at www.linlyheflin.org .  ACT of 22 and financial need.
  • KFC - Colonel's Scholars - Complete application online between December 1 and February 10, 2009. www.kfcscholars.org.  Must complete FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov
  • Burger King Scholars - apply at www.bk.com/scholars.  Access Key = BKS.  Must work 15 to 40 hours a week and have a 2.5 GPA or higher.  Demonstrate financial need
  • University of West Alabama - scholarship awards begin with a ACT score of 22, leadership awards available as well.  Deadline is February 15
  • Ole Miss - deadline is February 1 - apply at www.olemiss.edu
  • Troy University - full tuition scholarship offers start with an ACT of 27 - Leadership awards available as well.  Deadlines vary
  • Jacksonville State University - Deadline is March 1 - apply online at www.jsu.edu
  • University of North Alabama - must be admitted by February 2 - A resume' is required. Valedictorian and Salutatorian, Leadership Scholarships, Charles N. Martin, Jr. Scholarship, and other awards available. 
  • University of Montevallo - deadlines vary - apply at www.montevallo.edu/admissions
  • Birmingham Southern - must have admissions application on file by January 1. - $14,000 Annually with 3.67 Core GPA, 27-30 ACT - $12,000 Annually with 3.0 GPA, 25-26 ACT, $10,000 Annually.
  • University of South Alabama Physics Major Scholarships - Tuition, Fees, and Textbook Stipend = valued at $6,8000 per year (renewable)
  • Berea College (Kentucky) - Berea is a college with high academic standards specifically for students with significant financial need.  All students receive enough financial aid to cover 100% tuition.
  • Kids Chance Scholarship - for children who have had a parent killed or disabled in an on-the-job accident.  Deadline is May 1 - apply at www.alfinc.org
